CHAPTER BUSINESS/DINNER/EDUCATION MEETING. Albany Fire Chief Marc McGinn joins us to speak about smoke alarm technology... the good, the bad, and the ineffective... and fire sprinklers.
Mr. McGinn recently had an article in the San Francisco Chronicle where he passionately makes the case for using photelectric smoke alarms, as compared to those that have ionization sensing, and he speaks from a lifetime of experience as a fire fighter. He will share the results of independent research on smoke alarms that upsets many notions of what is an acceptable and effective system.
Mr. McGinn will be accompanied by his battalion chief, Brian Crudo, who will discuss new fire sprinkler code going into effect in California on January 1, 2011.
